| Ronan
in the hospital - July 25 through August |
 |
| On
July 25th 2005 Ronan joined our family, about 3 months too
early. He weighed 2 pounds 0.5 ounces at birth. He will
be in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit probably until sometime in October. These are some pictures of him. |
 |
Ronan
being weighed. At this point he was crying and still
breathing on his own. He tired fairly quickly, however, and
had to be put on a ventilator.
To the right is the
beautiful mother. Her recovery was very quick (two pound
baby) and she is doing well.
|
 |
| Here
is Ronan about 30 minutes after he was born. His eyes aren't
open yet here, he is on a ventilator and has IVs and tubes running
in his belly button. I love the hat. |
 |
 |
 |
 |
Ronan
is under a bililight here to help to decrease the amount of
bilirubin (jaundice) in his blood. The patch over his eyes with the
glasses drawn on it is to protect his still un-opened eyes from
the light. |

Above
are Julie's and my hands over him. He is unbelievably small,
even the other preemies in the NICU seem like giants. H e
likes to be cradled between our hands. It makes his world
not seem so big.
Ilana and Forester love visiting
him. They touch him and sing him songs. |
 |
| Ilana got to hold him Friday the
12th of August. She loved it and sang him "Inch
Worm." |

Ilana took
this picture of Grammy and Forester in the hospital.
|
|
| The
pictures below were taken on the 15th of August. You can see
that he is off the ventilator and IV but still needs some
oxygen. The other tube up his nose is feeding him breast
milk mixed with caffeine once a day (really, caffeinated breast
milk). Here he weighs 2 pounds 3.3 ounces. |

He is loved.

in the hospital - August through October 13 |
 |
 |
 |
You
can see him getting a bit fatter here. He is still very
small, however. |
| Ilana
is helping change him. She is so excited to be a big sister
again. |

Above,
Ronan is finally not getting any help breathing. The tub
going up his nose is what he is still using to get fed. Milk
is injected directly into his stomach.
To the left, Forester is staying
entertained on a trip to the hospital.
To the right, Ronan is finally
eating entirely from a bottle. The hand is Grammy's. |
 |
 |
 |
 |
| It
is October 13th here and he is finally ready to come home.
The cord hanging off of the chair on the picture to the right goes
to a monitor that continues to watch his heart rate. The
sweater and hat were made by our downstairs neighbor. He
weighs just under 6 pounds here. |
